Jodee James - song sample lyrics ~

Y Glommen (The Dove)

As I walked out one May morning
So pleasantly among the trees
There I spied a dove complaining
Lamenting for her own true love
What shall I do?

A nesu wnes yn nes i wrando
Beth oedd y gangen ferch yn gwyno
A nesu wnes a gofyn iddi
o gentlest dove, o fairest one
what is your hardship?

O gentle dove don’t be complaining
The sun will surely rise again
And when it the trees will blossom
You’ll remember well when summer comes
It brings the hawks to roam

There by the trees I heard the dove
Complaining for her own true love
There on her neck i saw the bells
Golden ones where long ago
My own two arms were

Oh long ago, many a time
I held her in my arms

Lle bu’n faith
Do lawer gwaith
Fy nwy fraich innau

Hiraeth am Ferion

 Yn y mor y byddo’r mynydd
Sydd yn cuddio bro Meirionnydd
O na chawn i olwg arni
Cyn i’r galon dirion dorri

Be the dreamer’s son and daughter
Be the wings upon the water
Be the pages of a story
Be a sail that holds no glory

Play the words, play the moon, Play the new way
Breathe the hills, breathe the path, breathe the cold bay
And at night when I toss not believing
Rest my thoughts, and turn my leaving

Yn y mor y byddo’r mynydd
Sydd yn cuddio bro Meirionnydd
O na chawn i olwg arni
Cyn i’r galon dirion dorri
Cyn I’r galon dirion dorri

Dinogad’s Coat (based on poem Pais Dinogad)

Dinogad’s coat
It is speckled
Made from skins of martens
I made it
We’ll sing chwid, chwid, whoops a–whistle
His eight men then sing whoops a-whistle
We’ll sing chwid, chwid, whoops a–whistle
His eight men then sing

When your father goes a-hunting
Spear upon his shoulder, bow in hand
When your father goes to the mountain
He’ll catch them all
A buck, a boar, a stag, a grouse
A fish from Derwennydd Falls
He’ll call his fast dogs
He’ll call his fast dogs

Long the night and bare the moor
Gray the hills and pale the shore
When your father hunts in days of old
When he catches fish in his coracle
Giff, gaff, daly, daly dwg, dwg

Dinogad’s coat is speckled
Made from skins of martens
We’ll sing, chwid, chwid Whoops a-whistle
When your father hunts in days of old
When he catches fish in his coracle
When your father goes to the mountain then-
Unless strong wings,
He’ll catch them all he can.

I Love My Love

Abroad I was walking one evening in the Spring
I heard a maiden in peril so sweetly did sing
Her chains she rattled in her hands, so lovesick sang she
I love my love because I know my love loves me

Oh cruel were my parents they have been so unkind
They banished my love to sea and tortured my poor mind
Although I’m ruined for his sake, contented will I be
I love my love because I know my love loves me

Would I become a swallow, I’d ascend into the air
And if I lost my lover and could not find him there
I quickly would become a fish and search the brimey sea
I love my love because I know my love loves me

With straw I'll make a garland, I’ll weave it wondrous fine
Mixed with wild roses, rosemary, pink and thyme
I’ll present it to my love when he comes home from sea
I love my love because I know my love loves me

Just as she sat there weeping her love comes back to the land
Hearing she was in bedlam he ran straight out of hand
And as he entered through the gate, he heard her sigh and say
I love my love because I know my love loves me

He stood and gazed upon her hearing his love complain
He could not stand it longer, he bled in every vein
He flew into her snow white arms and thus replied he
I love my love because I know my love loves me

Trafaeliais y Byd

Trafaeliais y byd ei led a’i hyd
Pan oeddwn yn ifanc a ffol
Bydd glaswellt ar fy llwybrau i gyd
Cyn delwyf i Gymru’n ol

Pe cawn i’n awr adenydd y wawr
Mi hedwn i fryniau fy ngwlad
i weld y rhosod cochion mawr
Ar fwthyn fy mam a’nhad

Cyn delwyf i Gymru’n ol fy ffrinds
Cyn delwyf i Gymru’n ol
O bydd glaswellt ar fy llwybrau i gyd
Cyn delwyf i Gymru’n ol

Ni choeliwn gynt a ‘mhen yn y gwynt
Fod baich o hiraeth mor drwm
Cawn daflu’r baich i’r llif ar ei hynt
Pe safwn ar Bont y Cwm

Ffarwel fy nhad, Ffarwel fy mam
A heno rhowch follt ar y ddor
Ffarwel i’r eneth fach ddi nam
Sy’n wylo ar lan y mor
